Tungsten Carbide Seal Rings & Mechanical Seal Faces
Tungsten carbide is one of the standard face materials for mechanical seals. It runs against carbon graphite, silicon carbide or another carbide face, holds a lapped surface and tolerates abrasive particles in the fluid.
Typical applications
- Mechanical seals for centrifugal pumps, mixers and agitators
- Seals for slurry, water, oil and chemical service
- Rotating and stationary faces, mating rings and seats
What we supply
- Plain rings, stepped rings and rings with slots, pin holes or drive notches
- Faces lapped and polished to the flatness and roughness on your drawing
- Blanks sintered to near-net shape for your own finishing
Choosing the grade
Cobalt-bonded grades are the common choice for general service. For seawater, acids or other corrosive fluids, nickel-bonded grades resist binder leaching better. Tell us the fluid, temperature and the counter-face material and we will propose a grade.
Grade data (binder content, grain size, hardness, density, transverse rupture strength) is confirmed in writing for the grade we propose. How we choose grades →
Questions buyers ask
Can you match an existing seal ring without a drawing?
Often yes. Send photos with measurements, or the seal manufacturer's part number, and describe the service. We will confirm what we need before quoting.
Cobalt or nickel binder?
Nickel-bonded carbide is usually chosen for corrosive fluids such as seawater; cobalt-bonded grades are common for general service. The final choice depends on your fluid and should be confirmed against the grade data sheet.
